Rear seat passengers, whiplash injuries and how to claim compensation for whiplash
If you were a rear seat passenger and are now suffering from soreness or stiffness in your neck after a road accident, then you are probably suffering from a whiplash injury. As the accident is unlikely to be your fault, our team of advisors and legal professionals may be able to help you claim compensation for it.
Although whiplash injuries sustained by rear seat passengers are far less common than those sustained by the passengers in the front seats, this is only due to the fact that generally fewer journeys are undertaken by cars with passengers travelling in both the front and rear of the vehicle.
Rear seat passengers however are actually more vulnerable from sustaining whiplash injuries than those in the front of the vehicle. The reason for this is simple - the more popular (and less expensive) models tend not have rear seat head restraints. Lack of any kind of head restraint increases the chances of sustaining a whiplash injury considerably.
Because small children and babies often travel in the rear of vehicles, extra care should always be taken to ensure that they have the correct size child or baby seat for their age, and most importantly, it is fitted correctly.
