Whiplash and fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a painful muscle condition that some believe may be triggered or linked in some way to a whiplash injury. The symptoms of fibromyalgia are a persistent aching pain accross all the muscles of the body, along with severe fatigue. Other symptoms include neurological disorders, disrupted sleep and skin sensitivity.
The symptoms of typical moderate whiplash injury should be greatly reduced after between two to four weeks after the incident. However if your symptoms have not improved significantly after six to eight weeks, then you should return to your doctor for further investigation.
Diagnosing fibromyalgia is a difficult process, many of the symptoms of the disease mimic those of other disorders. As a consequence the diagnoses is usually based on further x-rays and blood tests in order to rule out other possible causes, and if no other condition can explain the symptoms, then fibromyalgia may be diagnosed.
