Accident not my fault can I get a hire-car not a courtesy car?
If you have a ‘replacement vehicle’ as part of your insurance cover, it may well be a ‘courtesy car’ rather than a hire-car so it is important to understand the difference between the two.
A ‘courtesy car’ is usually from a limited range of vehicles held by the repairing garage itself. But they: -
Are not ‘standard’ on all policies
May only be available while your vehicle is being repaired at an insurer approved garage
May not be a ‘like-for-like’ replacement i.e. not a similar type or engine size to your own
May not be available to you at all if your vehicle is a total loss, i.e. a ‘write off’

Will be available to you from the start of your claim to the end
Will be a like-for-like replacement for your own vehicle
Will be available to use for up to 7 days after a total loss settlement

If you were not at-fault, our independent claims service enables you to get a like-for-like replacement hire-car if yours is un-roadworthy and/or being repaired.
In addition to this, if your vehicle is deemed a total loss or ‘write off’, you can use your replacement vehicle for up to 7 days after the receipt of your settlement cheque.
Your replacement vehicle will be delivered to you typically within 3 hours of accepting your claim.
