Accident not my fault can I get a hire-car not a courtesy car?

If you have a ‘replacement vehicle’ as part of your insurance cover, it may well be a ‘courtesy car’ rather than a hire-car so it is important to understand the difference between the two.

A ‘courtesy car’ is usually from a limited range of vehicles held by the repairing garage itself. But they: -

  • Are not ‘standard’ on all policies

  • May only be available while your vehicle is being repaired at an insurer approved garage

  • May not be a ‘comparable’ replacement i.e. not a similar type or engine size to your own

  • May not be available to you at all if your vehicle is a total loss, i.e. a ‘write off’

No need to claim on your insurance
