Car safety features and tips
At Car Call we assist with road accident claims from across the UK. According to recent studies, an accident happens on the road every minute of every day, with an accident involving serious injury or death happening every 16 minutes.
If you are considering a new car, or are looking to improve your existing vehicle – here are the key safety features to look out for.
Dash Cams & Reversing CamerasHaving cameras on your vehicle for manoeuvring assistance and/or recording purposes can be a real benefit to the motorist. Dash Cams are invaluable for providing video evidence in the event of an accident. Reversing cameras can help you avoid objects that may otherwise be unseen. See our blog on Dash Cams
Restore your HeadlightsThe performance of headlights can sometimes be degraded on vehicles due to ageing plastic lenses, the ingress of moisture – or just grime! Ensure your lights are in good condition and get them cleaned or replaced if necessary.
Lane Monitoring & Electronic Stability Control (ESC)Lane monitoring systems use a camera behind the rear view mirror to monitor your lane placement and warn you if you are starting to drift out of your lane due to tiredness. ESC systems monitor the wheels of your vehicle and/or apply the brakes or reduce the engine speed in the event of a loss of traction.
Collision Warning SystemsAs well as lane monitoring and ESC, Collision Warning Systems alert drivers of any objects that are in close proximity to their vehicle. Sensors all around the vehicle trigger an audible alarm when the system thinks you be at risk of a collision.
Improved Seat Belts & Air bagsMost cars are fitted with safety air bags and seatbelts - but you may be able to have better ones installed. Check that the make and model of your car can have improved bags fitted – it may be worth looking into.
Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS)Anti-lock Braking Systems detect when you are braking heavily and automatically ‘pulse’ the application of the brakes for you - this technique can prevent the vehicle from skidding in difficult driving conditions.
Always get your car serviced and MOT’d on timeIt seems obvious, but your cars MOT’s and servicing mean that your car is road legal and less likely to break down.
