Toyota recalls 6 million vehicles due to safety issues. 9/04/14


Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has announced a global recall of millions of vehicles following potential safety issues being identified in some RAV4, Hilux, Yaris and Urban Cruiser models.

In the UK a total of 35,124 registered vehicles are affected by the recall. Owners of these models can check on the companies website using the registration number of their vehicle to see if it is affected by the recall.

The potential issues with the vehicles relate to:

  • The telescopic steering column of some second generation Yaris and Urban Cruisers

  • A spiral cable assembly on airbag modules of some RAV4 and Hilux vehicles

  • A fault in the seat adjustment rail for Yaris and Urban Cruisers

The car maker said: "Worldwide, there have been no reports of any accidents or injuries relating to these issues" and it would provide a "prompt inspection and repair programme" without charge to owners.

The company also said: "Vehicle owners will be contacted by Toyota within the coming weeks by post or telephone and asked to make an appointment to bring their car to their nearest Toyota Centre, in accordance with DVSA guidelines."
