Know your Highway Code - how to park on hills


It's always a good idea for all of us to stay up to date with the Highway code, especially if you took your test some time ago!

Here are some useful tips from Rule 252 of the Highway code for parking your car safely on a hill or incline.

Even though your handbrake may be in good working condition these simple guidelines can give you an extra level of reassurance should your handbrake fail for any reason.

Park closely to the kerb and apply your handbrake firmly.

When facing uphill, leave your vehicle in a forward gear and leave the front wheels turned outwards from the kerb.

When facing downhill turn your front wheels towards the kerb.

No need to claim on your insurance
