Dartford crossing payment method changed from November 30 2014. 29/12/14
The Dartford crossing is now operating a new payment system and increased charges from November 2014.
In an effort to reduce congestion at the crossing, drivers will have to either pay in advance or by midnight on the following day instead.
Along with this change charges have also been increased to help pay for another crossing point in the lower Thames region which is currently in the planning stage.
The charging system will be enforced with the aid of Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology.
The crossing will be operating a temporary road layout until the permanent layout changes are completed in Spring 2015.
