3p rise in fuel duty is scrapped. 5/12/12

The government has announced in it's Autumn statement that it has scrapped the planned 3p rise in fuel duty for January 2013.

It had been previously thought that the January increase was just going to be postponed until April.

The scrapping of the proposed increase is going to be welcome news to UK motorists.

In his statement to MP's the Chancellor said 'That is real help for the cost of living for families as they fill up their cars across the country.'

Experts claim that had the increase gone ahead, it could have cost the average motorist an extra £7.69 a month on fuel.

The increases had previously been planned by the last Labour government as part of their 'fuel duty escalator'.
