UK government announces plans to improve air quality. 27/07/17

The Department for Food and Rural Affairs in conjunction with the Department for Transport (DfT) has announced a plan to reduce Nitrogen Dioxide concentrations near the UK's roads.

The plans include an end to the sale of all new conventional petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2040 and a new Clean Air Fund.

Despite steady reductions in all key pollutants over the past 15 years, it is hoped that the new proposals will help accelerate the improvements in UK air quality.

3 new consultations from the DfT include higher road safety, operator safety and environmental standards for road vehicles.

This announcement follows recently introduced roadside emissions tests for lorries that may be fitted with devices to cheat emission regulations.
