Jeremy Clarkson breaks with BBC guidelines over
Satnav system. 6/3/12
According the BBC's own regulatory and governance body the BBC Trust, BBC Worldwide had failed to follow editorial policy on conflicts of interest by allowing a deal to make Top Gear Satnavs with the directional guidance voiced by Jeremy Clarkson.
The principles of the policy state that there should be no conflict of interest between a presenter's on-air activity and "the promotion or endorsement of a particular product".
They also stated that "no product, service or organisation promoted by a presenter may be shown, featured, reviewed or discussed in the BBC programmes they present".
Despite this slip-up they stated that Top Gear is still able to cover Satnav systems on the TV show.
BBC Worldwide the corporation's commercial arm, immediately removed the Satnavs from shelves after the issue was bought to their attention.
