Middle-classes suffer the most from the high cost of motoring. 24/11/11
A new report from the RAC has revealed that the middle-classes are currently bearing the brunt of the rising cost of motoring.
The total cost of motoring has increased by a whopping 14% over the past year, the report says.
Drivers are now paying on average £128.64 per week to run a new family car which works out to 55.74p per mile. Increases in fuel prices are to blame for the most significant portion of the rise.
Other factors which have contributed to this dramatic increase include the rate of depreciation of a new vehicle which rose by 16.67% and the increase in the cost of insurance which has gone up by 14.38%.
Overall the total cost of running a new family car has increased from £5,870 last year to £6,689 in 2011.
